Tim was born deaf and belongs to a deaf family. Tim Rarus was a student at Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C who led a protest for the deaf community and tried to help them by giving proper rights. He along with his four friends started a protest in 1988 and gave four demands to the Board of Trustees for the selection of deaf president.

In March 1988, DPN also known as Deaf President Now was protest started by four students. The other three were Greg Hlibok, Jerry Covell, and Bridgetta Bourne. Tim Rarus is one of these students who started a protest for deaf president when Jerry C. Lee resigned in 1987.

Arizona School was for the deaf, Tim completed graduations from there. After then, he completed bachelors from Gallaudet University. 

After completed bachelors, he started working for Senator John McCain as a staff assistant. He worked on advises on the disabilities to the senator.  

Tim Rarus worked hard on the deaf community and according to him, “the deaf group could coordinate the capacities and accomplish as much as a hearing group.” The purpose behind his struggle is, to give uniting and nourishing in deaf students, faculty, and staff. Tim Rarus did participate in the rally to support the deaf president. Remember that rally for the selection of deaf president was started on March 1, 1988.

 It is also said that “Tim was a leader in that protest and each day of protest, Tim gave many speeches and provide strengthened to the 2500 protesters each day.” His aim is to resign the Zinser and start a presidency of deaf for the revival and rights of deaf community. 

During the Interview Rarus said in 1988 "He always chooses the strongest words. He's not afraid of anyone.”


What did Tim Rarus do to the Deaf community?
DPN (Deaf President Now) is considered as the President for the deaf community. Tim gave a birth to the freedom for the deaf people. He stood for the deaf when Zinster President was not ready to resign. He was the main leader in the protest and provides motivations to the other protesters.
Jordan one of the protesters who said on his speech, “I only have anger towards the decision of the Board.” 

Four Demands by Tim Rarus for Deaf Community at protest time to the Board of Trustees

Here are the four demands to the board of trustees. He actually wanted to make deaf President at that time. It was need of time to give proper rights and apply laws for the deaf community.
·         Select a deaf President Now and deported current President.

·         Resignation of Jane Bassett Spilman.

·         51% majority of deaf members in a Board of Trustees.
·         There would be no backlashes against any understudies or staff individuals associated with the challenge taxi eindhoven.

Note: Jane Bassett Spilman was against this protest and did not allow anyone that deaf should be a President. He stated that “The deaf communities are not yet prepared to work in the hearing scene”

What did he do to support them?

Deaf People can do anything except hearing.
